You make some very valid points about the internet. I definitely agree that it has made communication much faster. This is great for business and personal use. Employers can manage their employees and keep them posted on important business matters. People with long distance relatives or friends can stay in contact with each other. These are definitely some extremely beneficial factors of the internet. I also agree with you that age-inappropriate content is a big disadvantage of the internet. There's some things that small children are just not ready to see. I think we need to keep them away from the internet longer. Not only can children stumble upon inappropriate content online, but they can become infatuated with the online world. According to an ABC news story a hospital has recently started a treatment program for what's known as "Internet Addiction." The article states that "They go online because they can become someone else and be admired for their skills" (Neporent). They have not yet defined "Internet Addiction" as a legitimate illness so it will not be covered by insurance. According to the article, "Patients will have to pay the program's $14,000 fee out-of-pocket (Neporent). The internet is an excellent source of information and entertainment and it is widely useful in countless ways. People need to make sure not to waste a lot of their time on there though. I heard the term "Internet Addiction" a while ago and I thought it sounded ridiculous. Now they're actually treating this so called "addiction" in hospitals. The internet can be a massive benefit to society, people just need to use it the right way
